Temp Agency

Alert Staffing - Town ? The representative stated the position was in Warren at Lucent Technologies

Approximate Time Frame w/ Agency

Never registered with, nor have I worked for them. They took my resume off an on-line job board to which I had posted my resume, though my profile for the job board states I am seeking only "Permanent" "Full-Time" positions. The job board also displays a statment that 3rd parties, in which they include the category of temporary agencies, are not to solicit.

Application Process

There was no application process. I never applied to them An employee of the temp agency working called my contact number she had taken from Hotjobs.com and left a message requesting I return her call regarding an open position at Lucent Technologies.

I returned the call to the number stated on the message, thinking that I was calling Lucent and thinking I was going to be applying for a full-time, permanent, direct-hire staff position with Lucent Technologies.

I was asked about my prior experience and told that there was a position in the Human Resources Department in Lucent Technologies in the Warren, NJ location. I indicated my experience and expressed interest in the job, still thinking it was a full-time, direct-hire, staff position with Lucent. Then I was told that the position was a "contract" position. I was surprised and upset since I thought from the message and since the contact was made through Hotjobs.com, that I was calling about a full-time permanent, direct-hire, staff position with Lucent. The person I spoke with also told me that the position would become permanent after 6 months. She also stated that the position had "benefits". I asked for further clarification, if there was an agreement about the term of "contract" employment. The response was that it was "open-ended" but would become permanent in "about" six months. I also asked for clarification as to who I was speaking to, and who was presenting the contract position, if she represented Lucent Technologies or some staffing agency. She was initially reluctant to divulge that she was a temp agency employee, and reluctant also to provide me with the name of her agency. (She herself indicated that she is a temporary and has been told she will become "perm" in about 6 months.

I feel as though I have been the victim of yet another temp agency "Bait and Switch" scam. I never applied to nor had any intention of contacting Alert Staffing.

Staff Qualities/Responsiveness

The staff was clearly deceptive from the "get-go". I regard this event as a "bait- and switch"

Assignment(s) Length

I never worked for them, never registered with them. However, the promise that was being made for the position discussed was stated as "open-ended", "about six months". It was stated that there is no agreement for the length of assignment and no agreement as to the position going permanent, but that this position and other positions do "become permanent" after about 6 months.

Representative was reluctant to divulge that she was a temp. She stated that Lucent had "hired" her. She was reluctant to divulge the name of her real employer which finally she stated as being Alert Staffing. I never sought anything but permanent benefited employment when I posted my resume.

Positive Comments

The person doing the "dirty work" seems herself to be someone who is being taken for a ride. I would be interested in speaking with her again after her "about six months" is at an end.

Negative Comments

Bait and Switch. Bait and Switch, Bait and Switch

Only thing you left out, the most important item. Temp agencies should be subjected to state and federal usury laws, and only take 22% of billed hours. This is the real crime. The rest is nice, but this is the ultimate exploitation.

I excepted a temporary assignment on the condition that I would work an avg. of 40hrs. per week. A week after my training, I reported for work on a Monday; and after 1 hour's worth of work, was sent home. As instructed, I called in to check for scheduling; 22 days-without-having recieved an assignment. Recently the client of the agency has requested that I report, but I have sought a job opportunity elswhere. I plan to call them (the agency)to inform them that I am persuing work elswhere. Question: Will this affect my receiving unemployment? Sincerely, Mr. Knight

Temp Agency

Robert Half International Located in Columbia Maryland

Approximate Time Frame w/ Agency

I've been with this company for one year

Application Process

The application process was easy. I responded to an ad in the paper only to find that it was with an agency. Once they scheduled an interview, I was calling them daily to see what was available.

Staff Qualities/Responsiveness

I found the staff to quite responsive at first. Then the regional manager had left and another person took on the position. At the time I was working for a company on an indefinite basis. Which was a new class to me. I thought that it could be temp or temp to perm. Once my duties had changed and I inquired about a higher rate and I was ignored.

Type of Tests Given/Training Off

I was tested on the microsoft programs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and I was given a typing test and also a clerical test. No training was ever offered.

Time till Placed on Assignment

Approximately one month.

Assignment(s) Length

The first assignment was said to be indefinite, it lasted only four months. The company knew about the company and the fact that they were doing major lay-offs. Despite my response to question on application and on interview, That I was seeking temp to perm only, they placed me on a job with a company that they knew was on their way out of business. My second assignment was said to last two weeks. Being unemployed and needing some money I agreed. The position only lasted seven days. The last assignment that I was placed with was looking to hire me permanently and the agency told them that I would have to complete 900 hours with them before hire. This caused me to miss another oppertunity for a permanent position.

Job Title

For my experience as an executive assistant in my prior job, I was only given receptionist jobs. I tested very well in Word and Excel, but I was never considered for not even one administrative job.

Name and industry of client firm

Salary per Hour, Promised/Given

I was promised $13.00 for the first job, after that, every job that they called me or was $8-$10 per hour.

Benefits (Promised/Given)

Never

Temp agency responsive

One inquiry was made for me to be hired after working only one day and the agency told the company that I would have to work for them 900 more hours

Positive Comments

In a pinch, I was able to make a few dollars.

Negative Comments

I don't think it's fair that any agency should post jobs constantly that are not available. I would call the agency daily looking for oppertunities which I saw in the paper and I knew I was qualified, but these jobs were never available. Despite my wishes to find permanent employment through the agencies, they acted against me in holding me for a very high randsome. They tested me on various things, but never placed me accordingly, On my last assignment, I am still waiting on payment and it's been over a month. The last two assignments were over and the company failed to call me and let me know. They just let me show up and hoped that I would get placed for the day. I work in the administrative field and it seems that all of the jobs in that field are tied into agencies. I feel that all of their ads are misrepresentation. You waste time and money sending and faxing resumes, only to find that it's just another agency and that the job does not exist.
